About
Karachi, Pakistan
Hi, I’m Saad. I build the parts of an app nobody notices until they break. The service dozen of other services depend on. The checkout that doesn't charge you twice. The service that has to stay standing while a few million people order breakfast at the same time. These days I do that at Careem, mostly in Java and Go, with the Careem Plus and Pay team.
I got here by trying things before I properly understood them. The first money I earned from code was $20, in my third semester at FAST NUCES. The sum was ridiculous and I was thrilled anyway, because somebody had paid for a thing I made. Freelance clients followed, then a part-time mobile development job to cover tuition, then an internship at Disrupt.com that turned into two years building identity and authentication systems.
Somewhere in the middle of that I co-founded a startup called Atom1 with two friends, and ran a Ramadan food drive called Ehsaas with my final-year project teammates. Neither one reads as a straight line on a CV. Both taught me more than a straight line would have.
I grew up in Saudi Arabia, where maths and computers quietly took over the hours between cricket and football in the street. I live in Karachi now, and play more padel than is strictly reasonable. One day I want to build something of my own, which is why I’m still collecting the experience to do it properly.
